WAITING FOR A MIRACLE

Mixed Media installation, The Crypt, St Pancras Church, London 2015

In September 2015, I shot a series of iPhone 6 photographs of light phenomena observed inside abandoned burial niches at the cemetery of St Marco, Atina, Italy. In 2016, the photographs were exhibited as an Anthotype printing-in-progress installation in The Crypt Gallery, St Pancras Church, London.

The work comprised wine coated burial shroud fabric, acetate photo transparencies of the cemetery images placed ready for exposure under theatre lantern lenses, placed on top of a light box.

The venue was a crypt with no sunlight, making an Anthotype exposure seemingly impossible. However, even In the darkness of the underground crypt, there are, at a micro level, tiny light particles that might make an exposure over a few million years.
